This workshop will bring together leading scholars to discuss the enduring vitality of pre-modern texts and their resonances in modern literature. We are honored to host:

 

Professor Britton Elliott Brooks (Kyushu University, Japan)

Professor Elenora Stoppino (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA)

 

The program is divided into two sessions. Participants are welcome to attend either or both:

 

Morning Session: Epic vs. Experiment

The Battle of Maldon × The Wake by Paul Kingsnorth

Afternoon Session: Plague Tales, Then & Now

The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio × “Impatient Griselda” by Margaret Atwood
