Online Conference on Convergences and Divergences of  English Medium Instruction (EMI) Teaching

In response to the trends of globalization and internationalization, the government in Taiwan is dedicated to enhancing the English proficiency of its citizens. With the goal set for 2030, Taiwan aims to become a bilingual nation and nurture bilingual professionals. Consequently, Content and Language Integrative Learning (CLIL) has become common in primary and secondary education, while universities have focused on "English as a Medium of Instruction" (EMI) as a specialization. In line with these efforts, the College of International Culture, Education and Foreign Affairs at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages is pleased to announce the conference with " Convergences and Divergences of English Medium Instruction (EMI) Teaching " as the main topic, scheduled for July 3rd, 2024 (Friday) to seeks to explore the commonalities and distinctions in English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI).

The topics to be discussed at this conference include various issues that stem from EMI, such as CLIL or Content-Based Instruction (CBI), and even how to incorporate teaching methods related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Additionally, we welcome submissions from graduate students. In essence, we aim to bring together experts, scholars, and practitioners in the field of EMI education and related interdisciplinary research. We hope to facilitate the sharing of their research findings, teaching methodologies, and case studies to foster the mutual development of EMI education.

The conference program will include "Keynote Speeches" and "Paper Presentations." After the conference, the outcomes will be compiled for a tentative publication of a book in September 2024. This publication will serve as a reference for policymakers and stakeholders in promoting EMI policies.
