Teaching Objectives

  

The Department provides its students with basic and advanced training in English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, and Russian, and thereby enhances their proficiency in the foreign languages aforementioned. It offers training in linguistics-related courses and cultivates students' understanding of western (esp. Anglo-American) literature and culture. Students are expected to become critical thinkers who, broadly educated, can integrate what they have learned and adapt themselves to the ever-changing world, at the same time preparing themselves for possible academic careers.

 

The Department cultivates professionals with critical thinking skills, foreign language competency, transnational cultural literacy, and a commitment to local communities.

 

Core ability:

Undergraduate Program 

1.To develop global vision and critical thinking skills
2.To show higher-intermediate level proficiency in English listening, speaking, reading and         writing skills required by the GEPT exam
3.To acquire basic proficiency listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a second               foreign language
4.To demonstrate teamwork skills

 

MA Program

1.To advance professional English communication skills for literature or linguistics
2.To comprehenddifferences in theories and approaches and sharpen critical writing abilities
3.To broaden interdisciplinary critical thinking skills and global vision 
4.To enhance innovative leadership, teamwork skills, and creative research abilities

 

Ph.D. Program

1.To master professionalEnglish communication skills for literature or linguistics
2.To probe intodifferences in theories and approaches and fully demonstrate critical writing         abilities
